Paints

Pearlescent pigments can be used in solvent-based, water-based paints, and powder coatings. Pearlescent paints are created by incorporating a proportionate amount of pearl pigments into a clear lacquer or clear powder coating, which is also applicable to enamel. These pigments are suitable for electrostatic coating and offer good resistance to acids and alkalis.

Normal Concentration

The normal concentration of pearl pigments for paints depends on the types and shapes of the surfaces being painted, as well as the painting or coating process used.

The following are normal concentrations used in various paints:

Paints              Concentration (%)

  • Powder Coatings        2-8%
  • Construction Materials   5-10%
  • Plastics                5-10%

Pre-mixing pearlescent pigments with a small amount of binder, paint, or wetting agent results in excellent dispersibility.

Pigment range for these applications:

  • Natural mica-based pearlescent pigment
  • Synthetic mica-based pearlescent pigment
  • Diamond effect pigment
  • Aluminium pigment
